BEVERLY SEMMES
Eye on Blue, 2024In Cut Paste, Beverly Semmes centers herself at the intersection of painting and sculpture, aspects of her practice historically siloed. Now, as the mediums mingle, Semmes examines how similar, or nearly identical, imagery takes on new meaning, dependent upon the context in which it is presented or consumed. Miniature versions of paintings affixed to fabric works converse directly with their large-scale, textile-less counterparts. Consider the painting Eye On Blue and the mixed media work Red Robe. -

BEVERLY SEMMES
Red Robe, 2024Eye on Blue finds its companion in Red Robe, a fabric work incorporating a variation of Eye on Blue, in an altered and skewed form. Halved in size and rotated 90 degrees clockwise, the composition is familiar, yet slightly awry. The painting is mounted on a deep red velvet robe, magisterial and worthy of a Queen. The sumptuous loungewear absorbs and reflects red tones in that particular, velveteen way.
