VISITOR DESIGN: JE
Closing Date24 January 2020
Our final Black Friday Focus showcases JE, a hand-sewn facsimile of Jeffrey Epstein's infamous black book by Visitor Design. This work is featured in "By/Buy Me," curated by David Platzker, open through 25 January.
In 2015, Gawker published the contents of Epstein's black book after it surfaced in a court proceeding involving the billionaire's former employee. He claimed that the book contained the names and contact information for Epstein’s closest confidantes and friends, many of them well known, others now recognized for their connections to Epstein. It also listed the names and phone numbers of many victims of Epstein's sex crimes. The publishing of Epstein's "little black book" unveiled a dark side to elite circles internationally and revealed spheres of influence that kept Epstein safe from authorities.
Four years later— in conjunction with Epstein's arrest— Visitor Design reproduced his book in an edition of 50 with a cover featuring the same initials that are emblazoned on his Park Avenue townhouse. Through his reprint, he highlights how Epstein's confidantes were wide-ranging, with individuals from both American political parties and from royal families across the globe. To Visitor Design, no one related to Epstein's crimes is safe from the limelight.
