As if swept up by a current or wave, the artifacts and objects collaged in "Buried Treasures" suggest the assorted histories that might lay along the ocean floor. Seashells, starfish, coral, and sealife make frequent appearances in the series, "Black Menagerie." Their presence references the artist’s Afro-Caribbean roots, as well as the ocean’s unique capacity for movement. In particular, the seashells commemorate the gravesites of those who perished during the Middle Passage.
