Much of Hope Gangloff's work is inspired by the people and places that hold significant meaning for her, "Late August on Lake George," is no different. Like countless artists and writers that came before, Gangloff and her community make the trek to Lake George each summer spending weeks in a cottage they have rented since their days at Cooper Union. The group has now expanded to include spouses and offspring, but the center holds and Lake George remains a place of fellowship and renewal for this generation and the next, as it did for the ones that came before. In reviewing this recent body of work for New York Magazine, Jerry Saltz stated, "Painter Hope Gangloff has more than hit her supple, sensual, optical stride. Landscapes in winter nights and still-lifes are all made with brilliantly focused mark-by-mark accumulation and retinal density, tangerine color, and a love of vision itself. This is her best show to date. Gaze, hear the Earth’s tones, the hand coaxing you ever inward."
